Masai Mara Safari Planning Guide

Masai Mara Safari Planning Guide

The Masai Mara Game reserve is Kenya’s most popular safari destination. There is a good reason why many people want to take a safari to Masai Mara during their holidays in Kenya – it has an astounding amount of wildlife. It is home to a big number of wildlife both in terms of numbers and species diversity.  The reserve is also home to the hot air balloon excursions famous for observing the animal migration from the sky.

The gentle rolling plains of the reserve are well watered with the Masi Mara River running from the north to the south through the reserve before turning westwards into Lake Victoria. The vegetation is largely red-oat grass with acacia and thorn trees.  It is simply an amazing safari destination.

Tailor-made Safaris to Masai Mara

Much as we offer a wide range of pre-planned trips to masai mara, we also appreciate that as an individual, you may also have individual holiday requirements within certain budgets; that is tailor-made or customized safaris to the Mara. So if there is a particular lodge in the Mara you would like to stay, or particular activities you would like to explore, we will happily arrange an itinerary just for you. All you have to do is let us know here.

When is the best time to visit the Masai Mara

With the wildebeest migration spectacle taking place between July and October, this is the best time to see this incredible movement of animals. Although it is not guaranteed that the wildebeest get to Maasai Mara, it has yet to let us down. Also, December to February are great times as it is dryer and good for the Big Cats. Having said that, you would be advised to also note that Maasai Mara is an all year round destination with the big cats, and all the big game still in the Maasai Mara Ecosystem.

Recommended Number of Days for Safaris to Masai Mara

Masai Mara has so much to see and experience. For a normal game viewing safari, we suggest 3 to 4 days. Those interested in photography safaris would however need to stay longer to get the best shots. Because of  the amount of wildlife possible to see  and number of activities that one can take in the reserve, we feel a 3 to 4 day safari is suitable.
