The Top 10 Africa Multi-Country Vacation Ideas and Suggestions

Multi-country Africa Safari Packages

With so many safari destinations, picking a single country in Africa for your safari vacation can be a challenging and daunting task.  I am hoping that the challenge opens up the eyes of your mind, and leads you to consider visiting more than one destination in Africa.   In any case, if you are going to travel for miles and miles, in some cases half-way across the globe for a safari holiday or vacation, you might as well go ahead and experience, as much as you possibly can while on it?

Safari trips to Africa can be expensive. In fact they are quite costly compared to many other vacation destinations in the world. Cross country trips to Africa are therefore likely to be even more expensive. However, as expensive as they are, I have always wondered somewhat, why one would travel so far and wide, in most cases to a different continent, just to visit a single destination.  It is a pity to see tourists rushing along, in a photographic trance, hoping to get the best shot of a spectacle like the Victoria Falls, spending about 1 hour on site, and having to leave to catch a flight back home! The rush is palpable.

To give you the some idea on how could stretch and spread the value of your hard earned cash paid for your safari vacation; I have tried to list below a few multi-country Safari combinations. On doing this, I am putting my mind on that person who might be visiting Africa for the very first time, aware that it may be a once in a life-time trip.

The items on my list for these multi-country safari combinations  are NOT in any order or preference. But they all pack in a glut of varied and different experiences – in terms of wildlife, culture, landscape, ease of travel and convenience.

1.  Combine Kenya and Tanzania Trips – Classic Safaris

When people think of safaris in Africa, Kenya is the destination that comes to mind. YES, I said it. And I am well aware it is a cliché. But historically true.  Kenya is the original “Out of Africa” destination.

From the stampeding herds of the Mara, to the cultures people, and the pink mass of flamingos of the Rift Valley Lakes, against the backdrop of the majestic Mount Kenya, Kenya is safari.

Tanzania, with some of the most beautiful landscapes in massive protected areas, is a top safari holiday destination like none in East Africa.  The 2 destinations, being the homes to 2 of the most popular safari parks in Africa – Serengeti and Masai Mara, make them a perfect match.  And it is extremely easy to cross the entry points between Kenya and Tanzania, whether by road or on air.  With anything from 8 days to 14 days, one can enjoy a good round trip covering Kenya and Tanzania.

We already know about Tanzania.  So what about Rwanda?  Rwanda has been busy, aggressively but carefully clawing her way into the big league of African safari destinations.  The land of a thousand hills is jostling for recognition, rightfully so, as a top safari destination as well.  In 2017, Rwanda took a slot as one of the World’s top emerging destinations –   Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards.

With some of the most friendly and charming people, plus world-class accommodation, Rwanda has all that most holidays destinations offer.  Settling for a combined Rwanda and Tanzania safari package is a perfect way of immersing oneself in natural conservation, classic Big 5 Safari, eco-tourism, history, Art and culture.

3.  Victoria Falls – Masai Mara – Serengeti

The majestic Victoria Falls, world-famous Masai Mara Game Reserve and the superlative Serengeti National need no introduction on Africa safari scene. These are some of the top destinations on the continent – for nature lover.  Not so long ago, there were no direct flight connections between East Africa and Victoria Falls. One had to spare a day or two in South Africa in order to connect between these destinations. That is no longer the case.  With Kenya Airways flights available between Victoria Falls and Nairobi and Livingstone and Nairobi, it is now possible to fly almost daily, unless the flights are fully booked on your dates of travel.  A holiday package combining Victoria Falls, Masai Mara and Serengeti would be good options if you can spare and afford at 14 days away from home.

4.  Victoria Falls, Botswana – Masai Mara – Serengeti

To some people, the desert might sound like a boring place with extreme temperatures and not much else to enjoy.  How I wish they knew how wrong that assumption is.  The can be fun, especially if one chooses a destination like Dubai.

Dubai has become famous tourist destination and an evening desert tour is a must-do item. Best time to enjoying desert safari is evening, as sun goes down, the heat of desert dissipates it becomes cooler and more comfortable.  A Trip to Dubai, together with a wildlife safari in Kenya and or Tanzania, this would be another value for money package. Flight connections between Nairobi or Dar es Salam and Dubai City make this kind of safari combination easy to plan.
