Day 1 : fly to Casablanca
On arrival, welcome by your guide, orientation tour of the city: Mohammed V and United Nations squares, Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes church and its stained glass windows, residential district of Anfa, and Ain Diab corniche. Free evening and diner.
Day 2: Casablanca / Rabat /Meknes/ Fez.
Visit of the impressive Hassan II mosque (minaret 200 m high, nave with opening roof). Departure for Rabat and visit of the administrative capital of Morocco: royal palace (ext.), Romantic ruins of the necropolis of Chellah, kasbah of Oudaïa, Hassan tower, mausoleum of Mohamed V and museum of History and Civilizations. In the afternoon, visit of the archaeological site of Volubilis, an ancient Roman city: the Gallien baths, the forum, the Capitol, the basilica, the triumphal arch and the villas which still have well-preserved mosaics. Continue to the holy city of Moulay Idriss, perched on a rocky promontory. Then, visit of Meknes, the former capital of Moulay Ismaïl (contemporary of Louis XIV), protected by its monumental gates (bab El-Khémis and bab Mansour): place El-Hedim, mausoleum of Moulay Ismaïl (subject to reopening) , remains of the attics. Departure for Fez.
Day 3 : Exploring the Medina and Souks
The full day is dedicated to the religious capital of Morocco. Panoramic view of this splendid site from the South Borj or the North Borj. Then, visits: Fez el-Jdid and its mellah (former Jewish quarter), doors of the Royal Palace. Discovery of the unique atmosphere of the medina of Fez el-Bali: Bou-Inania and Attarine medersas (subject to a medersa that can always be closed), Karaouiyine Islamic University (ext.), Nejjarine fountain, souks, Nejjarine museum of arts and woodworking (in a former caravanserai). Typical lunch in an old palace in the medina. Free time and diner in a local family home.
Day 4: Drive to Marrakech
Optional drive to Marrakech with driver or by train. Marrakech, the former Moroccan capital, which deploys its ramparts facing the snows of the Atlas. Upon arrival, check-in at your hotel then orientation tour of the Medina. Evening tour of Djemaa el-Fna square, a real “theater” in full swing; alleys of the medina; battlements.
Day 5: Exploring the red city
In the morning, guided sightseeing of Marrakech: Bahia Palace and its garden planted with orange trees, cypresses, jasmines…; Marrakech private museum in a house of the NINETEENTH e s. (Mnebhi palace); cedar wood domes and marble columns from the Saadian tombs; Dar El Bacha Palace, former residence of Pasha El Glaoui, renovated and transformed into a museum of Confluences; botanical garden created in the 1920s by the French painter Jacques Majorelle and his small Berber Museum. Afternoon Free time.
Day 6: day trip to the Atlas mountains and Agafay desert
Head to the desert for an unforgettable night under the stars. Your driver will pick you up directly from your accomodation in the city. You’ll then hit the road for a picturesque hour-long drive out of Marrakech to the desert. You’ll head south of the city and across the Haouz Plain, with views of the High Atlas Mountains, until you reach your far-flung desert destination: Agafay. Unlike the Sahara and its undulating sand dunes, Agafay is composed of stunning rock formations; its remoteness and tranquillity make this unique and serene retreat a must-see. When you arrive at your camp, head out into the desert on a camel ride, then settle in for the evening. After sunset, enjoy a tradi-tional Berber dinner and sit by the crackling fire, enjoying the silence in the desert and spectacular celestial views of the sky above. Your camp may offer unique activities like an astronomy lesson, which takes advantage of your remote location void of light pollution. You’re bound to relax in the peace and quiet of the desert, so far removed from the hubbub of urban life.
Day 7: Exploring the Atlas Mountains and back to Marrakech
Awake early to enjoy the sunrise, followed by a typical breakfast. After breakfast you continue your journey eastwards and head for the Kik Plateau where you will stop for refreshments form a high van-tage point, before then taking the road to the village of Moulay Brahim, with its famous holy shrine. Finally the road descends into the market town of Asni at the foot of the Atlas Mountains. NB On Satur-days there is a lively local souk well worth stopping to visit to witness livestock trading, local produce and authentic rural life. Passing through orchards of apple, cherry and apricot trees you descend to-wards the agricultural plains of Marrakech to reach the city at around 6.00 p.m. after a thrilling mix of desert, mountains, lakes and villages all within a one-day tour from Marrakech.
Day 8: Drive to the airport of Marrakech or Casablanca
