Angama Mara Camp – Kenya

Angama Mara Camp’s location, on the site where scenes from the film Out of Africa were filmed, offers the most magical location to witness the apricot and rose-hued sunrises and sunsets that begin and end each day.
Angama Mara comprises two totally separate and intimate camps each of fifteen tented suites. The guest areas are set on the edge of the Ololoolo Escarpment, with wraparound views of the Mara below.
Angama Mara Camp
is designed to make sure every moment, from eating to sleeping to working out, is done with the view of the Mara in the background. The lodge has its own airstrip just 10 minutes’ drive away and is reached by a one-hour flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport.
Facilities and Services at Angama Mara Camp
A central pavilion is shared by both camps and features an infinity pool, a gym with a folding glass front, a Maasai design studio and shop. The guest areas include a library and a gorgeous deck for gazing at the view.
Guests are appointed their own ‘butler’, but the service is far from being stuffy. The staff, who are mostly local, are outstanding and make sure that guests’ individual needs are met. As well as game drives, the lodge offers walking safaris, hot-air balloon rides, village visits and picnics on the site used in Out of Africa. In-tent massages and nail treatments are available.
Angama brings a modern, elegant aesthetic to the bush, with splashes of Maasai fabrics. The camp contains 30 tents but splits them into two camps to maintain an intimate feel, with two identical guest areas.
Rather than running the usual safari routine of early morning and late afternoon game drives, the camp allows guests to create a flexible timetable as packed or as leisurely as they choose. Privacy is at the fore, but a friendly and communal atmosphere is throughout. Not for the safari purist, but ideal for luxury lovers.
Rooms at Angama Mara Camp
The ‘tents’, which are more like open-plan apartments, feature an entire glass façade overlooking the Maasai Mara, polished wooden floors and an expansive deck with rocking chairs. The tents are spread along the escarpment insuring each has an undisturbed 180 degree view. Personal touches include a bar filled with your chosen spirits. Leave the blinds up to admire breathtaking sunrises from the warmth of your king-size beds, kept snug by an electric blanket.
